As the world moves towards clean energy, several OEMs are taking the lead to create integrated, smart, and sustainable energy solutions that cover both home electrification and vehicle charging needs. Hyundai’s recent announcement of the Hyundai Home energy ecosystem represents a one-stop-shop approach where customers can access high-quality solar panels, energy storage systems and electric vehicle (EV) home chargers on a single platform. The plan supports decarbonization initiatives by streamlining customer access to an entire ecosystem based on clean energy sources, particularly solar power. This is set to be introduced in select markets in 2022.

Facilitating the Shift to Solar to Meet Home Energy and Vehicle Charging Needs

Climate change concerns have renewed R&D impetus into sustainable energy alternatives. In this context, accessibility and affordability are vital to promoting uptake.

Hyundai Home’s comprehensive platform aims to facilitate customer adoption of solar/electric energy through a wide-ranging approach. The platform highlights the economic and environmental advantages of embracing a clean energy ecosystem. Partnerships with top brands mean that customers can pick from a broad range of high-quality, co-branded products and services.

One of the main challenges has been the lack of reliable information on the kinds of products and services available in the highly dynamic, still developing solar energy market. Recognizing this, the company has sought to simplify and enhance the entire purchase process. A dedicated concierge guides customers, helping them identify the products and services that best match their needs.

In terms of the actual implementation, the solar panels, energy storage systems, home EV chargers, and installation services will initially be provided by third-party partners. The post-sale home electrification experience is underpinned by constant customer support and warranties. Meanwhile, a Hyundai energy management app tracks and informs customers about the system’s performance.

With an eye on the new IONIQ EVs, the system is designed to function with any of their EVs or PHEVs.

Commitment to Clean Energy Ecosystem

Frost & Sullivan believes that initiatives like Hyundai Home fold into a more significant commitment to developing a clean energy ecosystem. In this case, it creates an environment where customers can easily and conveniently move to green energy management, generation, and storage within their homes. From sustainable energy generation and utilization, home appliances and EVs powered by solar energy, and embedded microinverters in solar panels, the focus is on making the customer experience with alternative energy convenient.

Other OEMs are also moving towards sustainable energy solutions. What we think will set Hyundai apart is its efforts to personalized customer experience and its drive to make sustainable energy – whether in terms of solar or EV charging solutions – more accessible.

The concept of Hyundai Home is aligned with e-mobility, where energy storage and energy management play the most crucial roles in allowing the usage of clean energy in homes as well as charging electric vehicles with the help of a common platform.
